Does eating a lot of sugar make you tired and lethargic? Or is it just me?

I have noticed that if I consume a lot of sugar I have very little energy and am very lethargic. I have also noticed that I can eat a lot of candy or a sugary drink and be completely drained and sleepy shortly after. Has this ever happened to anyone else?

  1. Initially I get a burst of energy and am bouncing off the walls. A short time later I crash. This is the effects of eating processed white sugar. Eating a piece of ripe fruit will not give you the same effect, thankfully.

The sugar in the food makes your insulin levels rise, which makes you crash.
Processed foods, enriched flours (white bread), high glucose level foods will do this.
Stick to greens with chicken at lunch, and then at 3 p.m. when you are hungry have some nuts.

    2. If you get no energy burst at all from the sugar then I would suggest a blood test is in order. East Point cook is on the right lines with this. I have diabetes & one of the first signs was when I would get tired in the after noon & go for a chocolat bar as a pick me up, not only didn't it pick me up it put me to sleep! You may not have diabetes but may be leaning that way and a complete blood test will let you know for sure.
