Cheese of the Month Clubs

Does any Chowhound have a reccomendation for a Cheese of the Month Club? I am looking to purchase this as a special gift for an elderly couple. I am somewhat of a skeptic when it comes to these "? of the Month Clubs" as most of the wine clubs send over-priced (and average) selections and other clubs send tnd not to provide value for the dollars spent.Harry & David is often critized for it's pricing, but the value is always there in the high quality of it's products (I happen to use Mission Orchards myself). That is what I'm searchng for - a company that will send first-rate cheeses rather than run-of-the-mill selections.Any input will be appreciated.

I would definitely recommend Artisanal. You can choose 3, 6 or 12 months.

I would have to recommend Zingermans in Ann Arbor. Excellent quality with customer service and reputation to match. I remember reading a poor review of artisinal's customer service on here recently. Zingerman's may be expensive, but I guarantee they will talk about it for a long time.

      good luck-jack

I second Artisanal. I also LOVE fromages.com. Seasonal selections direct from France. Divine, but not sure it they do monthly.

A third recommendation for Artisinal. We gave an Artisinal Cheese of the Month club gift to some cheese-loving friends last year and they raved. Not cheap, though!

        I love Zingerman's, always a good bet.

Also look into the Cowgirl Creamery. I haven't tried their cheese club, but I've had some of their other cheeses individually and have been very, very pleased.

I've had good luck getting the Murray's Cheese (NYC) Cheese of the Month. I gave it to two different people, both of whom loved it. They send quality stuff. (There are lots of other chowhound threads on Murray's.)

          Also not cheap.
