Why does a pound cake have to be baked in a loaf or bundt pan? I'd like to use the recipe to make a round layer cake instead - Is that possible? Any suggestions?

Yes, a pound cake can be baked in a round pan. Butter cakes, however, tend to be dry, and baking them deep (in a loaf or Bundt pan) rather than shallow (in a round or square pan) tends to help them retain some moistness in the center, I suspect.
