It's hamburgers or hotdogs (your choice), fries or hash browns (your choice again), with macaroni salad, mushrooms, onions, ground beef, hot sauce, and cheese. And the 'proper' way to eat it is to mix it all up. Many places do their own take on it but this generally sums it up. They're quite popular with the college crowd (never actually had one myself but went to school there for 4 years so saw many of them). Nick Tahoe's did the original, I believe. Sounds delicious, doesn't it??? :o)

You went to school in Rochester and never had a plate! Wow! That is an accurate description, but I've never seen mushrooms on it. If you're in Rochester and you want a plate (it's garbage plate at Tahoe's, trash at others, etc) I think Mark's on Monroe Ave is the best. BUT, they're only good past midnight after a long night of drinking.

I had trouble sitting with other people who were eating them! :o) The mushrooms might not be accurate - that didn't sound right to me either but my boyfriend insisted that he'd had them on so I included them. But, yes, they're definitely late night, drinking or cramming for a final food

I think you forgot to include the baked beans.

I saw garbage plates featured "The Best of" show on the Food Network. Looked pretty good to me.
