Los Angeles Times item:
“Nabisco 100 calorie packs” will each have 100 calories, 3 grams or fewer of fat, no trans fat and no cholesterol. The Oreos, Chips Ahoy and Cheese Nips will be reformulated to meet these nutritional guidelines; for example, the Oreos will have no crème filling.

What’s next: Mounds without coconut? Sushi without rice? Foie without gras?

The cookie was so far superior to Oreo that it makes me weep to even think about it. The filling was modest, rather than a big greasy layer of god-knows-what, and complemented the cookie beautifully. Hydrox made a cheesecake crust so superior to lardy Oreos...no words.

I guess I don't get your point. Are they going to stop making regular Oreos and the other snack items? If so, that's terrible. But if not, I don't see the problem. I had gastric bypass surgery and cannot tolerate large amounts of fat and sugar - with some people who have had the surgery even ONE regular cooky is enough to make them sick. If I or someone else could enjoy one cooky, it would be great, I would think. Maybe I am missing something, but I don't see what having an alternative for people who can't eat regular food takes away from those who can.

Kraft apparently will offer the modified Oreos as a supplement to their Oreo line of cookies. This is not a bad thing. My point is that these new things are no more Oreos than sashimi is sushi. I mean, if you can't even unscrew them, how can they be Oreos?

They should call them something else, like “Nabisco Sugarless, Almost-Tasteless Thin-Crisp Disc Abominations” so folks who are sugary-creamy-filling intolerant will know they can eat ‘em.
