Food Gifts from religious orders -- many treasures here

A recent question about fudge here brought a recommendation for the fudge made by the Briggittine Monks in Oregon. This made me think about the many excellent food gifts I've given and received that were made by folks in religious orders. I've found a site (see link) that specializes in these foods (and other products.) I've particularly liked the Briggittine monks' fudge and the brandy fruitcake made by the Trappist monks at the Abbey of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Oregon.

  1. Great site, Nancy, thank you. I especially enjoyed reading about the Bacon & Horseradish Bagel Spread Mix (!) made by the Anglican Brotherhood of St. Gregory.

That bagel spread source cracked me up, too. But, hey, fast food chains serve bagels with ham and cheese -- bagels have hit the mainstream.

    2. Thanks for supplying the great link; I'm still checking out all of the possibilities. Holy Cross Abbey in Berryville, VA makes great fruitcake. Though I haven't had it in a few years, it was great. I can't speak to their new offerings but they look interesting - honey spreads and chocolate covered fruitcake slices they call "fraters" - an appropriate moniker I would think. Anyway, though their site is not found on the link you provided, here's a link in case you'd like to check out their offerings too.
