Are there quick & easy ways to make bars at home? After trying Clif, Atkins, Balance, Luna, etc., I still can't find anything I really like. I'm imagining there's some way to take granola or a mixture of nuts/seeds/grains, mix it with something wet, and chill or bake so it can then be cut into bars. Does anyone do this?

Yes, my hubby was very disapointed when Clif Bars stopped making the ginger variety so he set out on a quest to make his own. He tinkered with a variety of recipes from a bunch of sites that he found by googling- probably for "energy bar recipe". I think he finally put together a recipe he was happy with. There's lots of info out there, try googling.

I would imagine you could get a recipe (or at least a basis for a recipe) from epicurious.com. I have had really good luck with their stuff, especially their dessert recipes.

I doctored the oatmeal cookie recipe on the back of the Quaker Oats box with chocolate chips, walnuts, raisins, dried cranberries or cherries, and a little peanut butter (for protein). Just mix up the recipe and add as much extra stuff until it just holds together, shape it into bars or logs and bake until golden and the yummy smell from your oven is irresistable. I pack them along on hikes and camping trips, but for truly athletic events like marathons and ski races, I stick with nasty original Power Bars... they taste like hell but are more effective than anything else I've tried.
