I was wondering what kind of experiences people have had with Zingerman's, in terms of both quality of food and mail order service?

I haven't used the mail order, but I've been meaning to. I was in there a couple of years ago and had the absolute best reuben I've ever had in my life. It was in the middle of a snow storm, we walked a couple miles to get there - an amazing day. I thought it was a great shop. My friend (who went to school nearby) has since used the mail order and has had good experiences.

I used to work there. I won't go on about their employment practices, but will say that their mail order business is pretty tightly run, and they really do care about getting out food quickly and keeping it fresh. I also think they would definitely refund your money or replace any product you weren't happy with (I don't remember what their exact policy is, but they really do want their customers to be happy).

I've used them to ship gifts and have had good experiences. There was a problem with a holiday order once, and they were most helpful. Nice people to deal with, and fine products.

I went to school at UM, used to live a block from Zingermans and have used their mail order service since leaving.

Their products are top quality, and it's like they've got the entire staff on the prozac coolaid they're so friggin' nice. It's almost bizarre, but incredibly pleasant, how nice they are.

My experiences have been similarly positive. I live in Ann Arbor, but the few times we've used mail order to send stuff to relatives it's worked really well. They do go out of their way to meet customer's needs.

I've done mail order from them a number of times and been very happy with the results. The items are delivered quickly and in good shape and, once, I even got a freebie (cheese) in with my order, which was unexpected and fun. I ordered one of their gift boxes before a road trip down to the Napa Valley so that we would have stuff to knosh on in hotels without having to run about looking for items. (I've spent way too much time wandering the streets of places like downtown Portland, Vancouver, and Victoria looking for some cheese or bread or something to go with the wine chilling in the hotel room only to come up empty.)

I've had trouble with their bread, but only because we can't get to it quickly enough. I find that certain items are just as easy to get locally but for those that aren't, they're a great source.

Excellent company even if some items are a little overpriced. I ordered several products, one of which was out of stock at the time. When the back-ordered product came in they sent it to me and paid the shipping. Very service oriented.
