Who has the best mail order cake?

  • e

I am just wondering with the plethora of mail order cake companies, which one is worth ordering from? Mrs. Beasleys is popular, but I have not been impressed. Does anyone have recommendations? Rum or liquor cake? gourmet pound cake? Coconut? I would love to hear some good suggestions. Another note, are there any with nice presentation that are suitable for gifts?

Well, Oprah orders her cakes from Pefect Endings in San Francisco. I've never tried them, but they are just stunning. I could not believe the flower pot cake was really a cake and not real flowers in a terra cotta pot.

VERY $$$$ and you need to plan ahead as they are much in demand. They are big on wedding cakes, but do regular cakes as well($34 - $54). There is
    Banana layer Cake
    Coconut Cake
    Devils Food Cake
    Red Velvet Cake
    Spiced Pecan Cake

Their web site is a pain though. It takes a while to down load.

Wow, these cakes looked amazing on the website. I am amazed that they charge $55.00 for a six inch cake and that people actually buy them. That says quite a bit about how good they must be.

Not necessarily. Does Courtney Cox eat cake? It doesn't appear so to me! Oprah may be a better judge. But my real point is, once you have a Name, there are lots of people who will spend the money even if the quality isn't there. Especially for gifts - one never tastes the cake oneself... one only wants to impress the recipient. One may even just be having one's personal assistant order these for business associates and may not care about the taste at all, just the appearance of having spent money on the "right" product.

I know nothing of this brand, they might be great.

Would you please post a link or the web address? I could not find it on a google search in the first few pages. Thanks.

It was in the original post, but here goes again. If that doesn't work, try

This is a horrible web site. It is verrrry slow and occasionally down. If you can't get it on the first try, then try again later.

            To Elle,

I guess for Oprah, $55 is nothing. I think Courtney Cox had them do her wedding cake, that must have been big bucks.

Thanks, I was looking for a Lady M site - don't think there is one.

      3. Try Zingerman's, the sour cream coffeecake is excellent. The catlog is very fun to read full of personality. The brownies sound excellent.

In a recent issue of my Rosengarten Report, Mr. Rosengarten almost drools on the pages over specialty cakes from Lady M Confections Co., particulary the Mille Crepes cake. This cake is apparently composed of many layers of exquisitely crafted crepes intersperesed with an ethereal, subtly orange flavored custard. This cake is 65.00, said to feed 14, and if you live in Manhattan, can be delivered, same-day for an additional ten bucks. Out of state they are shipped frozen, FedEx, plus shipping charges. There are several other totally scrumptious sounding confections, like the Mirroir Caramel - dark chocolate sponge with a generous layer of caramel mousse and a thin, shiny coating of gelatinized caramel($60).

Do post if you end up ordering from them to get another opinion.

          1. here is Virginia there is Rowena's. They send out tasty and moist pound cakes in numerous varieties from chocolate to key lime as well as cakes with icing or streusel toppings. Also have jarred sauce for the cakes like chocolate or lemon curd. I used to send out boxed sets for Xmas gifts and they were always received well.
