Sarson's Malt Vinegar

Now that I've obtained a bottle I would like to know what to use it on other than fish and chips, of course. Thanks.

  1. Sliced cucumber marinated in malt vinegar is excellent.
    Same for sliced onions.

    1. I have a couple of vindaloo recipes that call for it specifically.

      1. I use it in place of mayo in tuna salad. My chowpup uses it on steak, ribs and brisket. If you want to make a British style mint sauce instead of that disgusting green jelly stuff that's served with lamb, chop up some fresh mint, add Sarsons, a pinch or two of sugar and a small amount of hot boiling water. I also think Sarsons tastes great on potato latkes - but that's an acquired taste.

        1. Malt vinegar is really good in grilling sauces and marinades. Here's a link to a very good grilled pork tenderloin recipe that uses malt vinegar in the marinade. It was originally published in Chile Pepper Magazine. The author of the recipe is Joey Altman, a really good SF Bay Area chef.
