fagor pressure cookers

Does anyone have any experience (good or bad) with Fagor pressure cookers? I haven't used a pressure cooker in years, but I seem to remember that the Fagors were pretty well made.

    1. Yeah, I've had the Fagor Multirapid (6L or 6.5L model) for ~6 years and it's absolutely one of my favorite pieces of kitchen equipment. I use it for cooking AND canning, and it's usually what I grab as a spaghetti cooker because of its proportions. Because I pressure can, I needed the flexibility of a "3-speed" model (equivalent 5, 10 and 15# pressures) but I figured I could tell time, so didn't go for the model with the timer.

Before purchasing, I checked on the Fagor, Kuhn-Rikon and Magnafesa (?sp) lines (there are a few others, but not as consistently rated). Really liked the Kuhn-Rikon but, since I don't ever plan on preparing "broasted" chicken (K-R is the only line rated for deep-fried pressure cooking, if I read correctly), the additional cost wasn't justified, so the choice was between the Fagor and Magnafesa. I happened to find the Fagor first and it was on sale as well -- end of story for choice. The store where I bought mine had only the complete unit, no gaskets or parts, so I, wondering about replacement parts, particularly gaskets, called their USA number (somewhere in NJ, I think) and a very nice, very Spanish lady assured me she was the USA distributor and that she wasn't going anywhere.

I was having occasional problems getting it to seal properly under heat until I realized the gasket needed to be really tucked upward along the rim so the white engagement plunger could come into full contact with the gasket. After that, no problems at all. In fact, it's quiet, well-built, easy-to-clean, and very easy to decompress with cold water for fresh vegetables, etc, that require immediate release as opposed to the "natural" release method.

I have no vested interest in the product other than being a satisfied customer. Hope this helps...........Enjoy.

Thanks, that's exactly the kind of information I was looking for. And I didn't even know you could use a pressure cooker to can...

          • Not very good at all, and getting hold of a new gasket (the first one lasted a couple of weeks) has been very difficult. I certainly wouldn't buy one again.

Wow, you must of got a defective one. I've been using my 6 qt Fagor Elite for a couple of years now. Use it a lot and the gasket still looks and feels like new. I expect it will last me a decade or more of dedicated use based on the lack of wear seen after the last couple of years of use.

                  1. re: scubadoo97

My two year Fagor 6.5 liter has not had a gasket problem, but one of the bayonet flanges on the pot (folded over SS) is splitting and may not hold pressure soon.
The lid is fine. I am disappointed with longevity of the product.

                  2. I've had my Fagor for about a decade. I've used it frequently and have had no problems. If you buy on of these, perhaps you should buy from Bed, Bath and Beyond or Amazon for the ability to return if defective. But mine has given better service than any other pressure cooker I've ever had. (I've had several.)
