I've recently realized the extent to which I like different gins for different gin-drinks (for the record, my current favorites - which I'm sure others would disagree with - are tanqueray ten for martinis and hendrick's for gin and tonics). I love negronis, and am planning to make them for a party soon, so it got me wondering - any suggestions for what gin might work best in a negroni? I wish I could afford to do my own taste testing, but sadly I don't have the budget.

My fiancee drinks Negroni's all the time, on the rocks with regular Tanqueray. His gin of choice is Bombay Sapphire, but for some reason, he enjoys the Tanqueray in the green bottle for Negroni's. Don't forget the orange slice!!!!

Ditto re: regular Tanqueray for Negroni's and, if you can get it, definitely Vya for the vermouth.

I am a big gin drinker and have found the following two to be to my tastes in Negronis as well as a Gin Sling. These are two very different cocktails, yet I find both to be appropriate.

Plymouth Gin
Schlichte

Equal parts gin, sweet vermouth, and Campari. Garnish with an orange wheel or lemon twist.

I don't think we have a gin preference in our household, but we generally make them with Tanqueray.

Equal parts is the standard recipe, but I tend to find it a bit too sweet. I definitely would skimp on the sweet vermouth; some people even make negronis with 3 parts gin, 2 parts Campari, 1 part sweet vermouth which I like too. Experiment! Shake with ice.
