Anyone have any great suggestions? We really like expensive wines and are trying to find a few more reasonable that are just as enjoyable. Would love your recommendations...

We have been loving the Ravenswood Vintner's Blend Zinfandel, 2000. I have found it for b/w $6.99 (I have bought a couple of cases at that price) and $9.99. I'm no wine expert but we love it as well as most of those we've poured it for.

Go to www.wineloverspage.com and you will find tons of recs for that price range. In fact they put out a list of the best each year under $12/bottle. The thing I like about this site is they are not trying to sell wine adds. Did you ever ask yourself why in Wine Spectator magazine, or others like it you see the same wines with positive reviews that they just "happen" to be advertizing? Coincidence? I think not!

Many, many excellent red wines can be found in this price range...

Great bargains can be found in Spain, in non-Rioja reds...

Argentina has some terrific Malbecs and Cabs. Ditto Chile. Syrah is happening in Chile as well. Check out Montes: Alpha Syrah, Cabernet-Carmenere and Malbec.

Oz shiraz offers many excellent options between fifteen and twenty dollars. Try Leasingham Bin 61.

Both California and Washington State can be a source for good value reds as well as lot of overblown, overpriced wines-- Gallo, believe it or not, has some exceptional cabs for less than twenty dollars. Rancho Zabaco Sonoma Heritage Zin--also a Gallo product. Simi Cabernet. Robert Parker has recently been cheerleading for 2001 Bogle Petite Sirah.

Check out the article from last week's Washington Post, whose excellent wine critics are always searching out good value, well-made wines.
