We used to grow a few peanuts (organically) and roasted our own in the oven. They make the house smell awesome (almost as good as processing honey).

Anyway, we did a household taste testing recently (my 84 year old mother could use peanuts for her diet staple) and of all things, we liked Planters the best.

Betty,
How wonderful to grow your own peanuts! Alas, in central NJ I think I'm north of the growing zone.
I think I'm going to order some raw peanuts and roast them myself.
Thanks!

Val, if you can grow other legumes, you can probably grow peanuts. Burpee sells a half pound packet of Jumbo Virginia peanuts for $4.95 -way more than you may need but maybe you could roast the rest! They need well drained soil and 4-5 frost free months.

Peanuts are really a rather attractive plant, they wouldn't look odd in a landscape, and they are so very interesting to watch grow and harvest.
