My daughter is in dire need. I don't have a crockpot, so am of no help to her. I would appreciate knowing what books are useful to you, as there are quite a few out there, and I am sure to pick a lemon on my own.

Try this web site. It says "southern cooking" but I think the recipes are not all that regional.
We used it a couple of times.

There are other great sites, too.
On Yahoo or Google search "crockpot recipes" (Don't forget the quotes!)

you can download recipes for free off the internet, search for crockpot, one pot, slow cooker.

for book versions,
I'm not sure what cuisine you are looking for, but better homes and gardens has a new book out that focuses on crockpot recipes. versus others in the market, including betty crocker, it's been rated a little higher by a few ppl, with fewer redundant recipes that could be found online.

I have two that are pretty good:

Slow-Cooker Ready and Waiting Cookbook by Rick Rodgers
is pretty good for hearty, stick to your ribs fare.

Slow Cooker Cooking by Lora Brody has a good section that she calls her "pantry" section in which she provides recipes for caramelized onions, apple sauce, and dulce de leche in the slow cooker. Quite a few duck recipes in the poultry section of the book.

Someone on Chowhound recommended "The Slow Cooker Ready & Waiting Cookbook" by Rick Rodgers.

I just got the book and haven't tried any of the recipies yet. He is very specific with instructions. I sense that the recipies are well-tested.

I have a couple--one pretty good, one not so good.

"Crockery Cook Book" from Sunset Books has a nice selection of interesting but not overly complicated recipes. This one is good enough to recommend.

"Fix-It and Forget-It" by Dawn Ranck has a lot of recipes in it, but a lot tend to be of the "can of mushroom soup" or "package of onion soup mix" type of cooking. I doubt that I'll keep this one.

I've paged through "The 150 Best Slow Cooker Recipes" by Finlayson in the bookstore but haven't cooked from it. That one looks like a good one to me.

I bought Crockpot Cookery a little while ago, and everything that I have made so far has been excellent. Not the mushroom soup type stuff but a lot of interesting options.
