We get the Zingerman's catalog but have yet to order anything. What (if anything) is worth ordering? The brownies look good, but are they as good as or better than homemade? What about the breads?
Anyone tried the Babka?

Thanks

Jeff--A number of things are worth ordering, and a few are delicious on site but don't travel as well. The breads are a great thing to order. For the holidays, I enrolled everyone in my extended family in the "bread club," and they were all treated to two breads a month delivered to their door. I managed to be at my brother's house when his were delivered, and they were fresh and sensational. We've also had great success ordering cheeses (they have a superb selection) and salamis. I've ordered and loved their pastrami, but you can read the long thread on the Chicago board debating whether it's worth the cost--especially since you have to pay overnight shipping for it. I guess it depends on your local pastrami situation.

Obviously, relative nonperishables like olive oil and balsamic vinegar are fine to order.

Finally, the brownies fall into the category of something that's delicious on site but doesn't seem to travel well. The caramel ones get too gooey and the others just don't taste as good, for some reason.

And if you're ever near Ann Arbor, Zingerman's is a place you must visit. It's filled with enthusiastic, helpful folks who love discovering and sharing delicious, high quality foods.
