Water Filters and Fluoridation

The recent discussion of water filters reminded me of a question that's been troubling me for some time. Do Brita-type water filters remove fluoride as well as chlorine? If so, am I putting myself at greater risk of tooth decay and osteoporosis by eschewing fluoridated tap water. I asked my dentist and she said she didn't know.

    1. I've been wondering about this for years and have been meaning to call Brita's 800 number to find out, but haven't picked up the phone yet. Too busy reading this site.

          Water filters don't remove fluoride.

          • You want to switch to R/O so you can remove all the solids from the end product. Aquafina is the best so far Store bought water with the highest rating and least amount of undesireable stuff left. Brita just fools you with great taste but doesn't solve the bigger ? about what's still left in the water.
