buy the corned beef if you must, the pickeled herring you can trust and the lox put you in orbit aokay,

but that big hunk of liverwurst has been there since Oct. 1st, and today is the 23rd of May..

repeat chorus.

I can sing the thing, but I am not sure what the tune is. Any help?

I cant believe no one from the NOLA board has brought up Kermit Ruffins and the BBQ Swingers. This former trumpeter from the Rebirth Brass Band is one of the best musicians to come out of New Orleans since Professor Longhair. He shows up to his gigs trailing a big BBQ behind his truck, which he oftens sparks up at some point during the evening.

Many of his songs are about food. My favorites are his version of Smokin' with some BBQ ("smokin' and drinkin' and BBQin' every day") and his song "What is New Orleans?" (Red beans and rice, chicken gumbo, file gumbo).

Another great song (not by Kermit) is the Memphis Soul Stew.

Oh my goodness. I was in NOLA 2 years ago (this exact week, I think) and we saw Kermit Ruffins at Vaughn's, where he used to and maybe still does play every Thursday. A co-worker who used to live down there told us about them and it was on the top of my list of things to do. The BBQ and the music were amazing and it's the first thing I want to do on my next trip back. How funny - I was just telling someone about them a few days ago.
