So the other day I'm making capuccino on this little $60 espresso maker with a milk frother attachment on the side. It's a model from like 6 years ago. I got the coffee dripping out and the steamer going and POP! goes the tiny little plastic thingamajig at the end of the metal tube that is supposed to regulate the steam. The steam is escaping and whistling like crazy out the wrong end of the tube and I have no way of frothing my milk. I tried putting the thing back in but it promptly popped out again. If you own one of these things, you know what thingamajig I'm talking about. Has this happened to anyone else?

Is there any way to fix it without buying the whole steamer rig from Krups by mail?

Yes, I've had the experience of that little black plastic top on the milk frothing attachment shoot off. And it wasn't just steam escaping, but a thin stream of milk, too! yikes, what a shock that was! Try drying the tube and plastic thing really well before you insert the plastic thing in the tube. For me, it seemed as though it was just too wet on the sides from when I'd washed it, to fit snugly enough in the tube to withstand the pressure. That worked for me. I'd love to hear other people's thoughts on this, too. Good luck!

A couple of years ago a mouse ate mine right out of the machine. What a reach! Anyway, I found you can order them from Krups, I think in packs of two. They were cheap (couple of bucks), and I think I ordered them by getting their 800 number online.

Find a web site for Krupps with a "contact us" link or email address and email them. We have a Mr. Coffee that is a few years old and we broke the carafe. We contacted Mr. Coffee via email and they told us how we could order a replacement part from them.

you might try cleaning the steam tube with a pin. i didn't have exactly the same problem, but i was having trouble with my steamer. i took the whole thing apart, unclogged the hole and washed it all with warm, soapy water. good as new.
