Boozehound(?): Ron Zacapa Rum
Ron Zacapa Centenario is from Guatemala, and I understand it has won several awards. But I've never actually found any in the US. It was on Sam's Wine's website (Chicago) for a while, but they didn't have it in stock. And rumjungle in Vegas still has it on their menu, but there isn't any actually there.
Does anyone know the story of this fine spirit and its scarcity? Or if you've seen it recently, that'd be great info too.

We always have a bottle of Ron Zacapa on hand for sipping ... actually, we have two right now. Both the 15 and the 23 yo are good IMO. My husband and FIL (aged scotch drinkers too) both prefer the 23 yo.
Coming to the DC area anytime soon? I've not had any problem locating it here.

How about in Toronto? I know the LCBO doesn't stock it. Just the more common Appleton's, Bacardi, Flor de Cana (McCowan & Hwy 7 location)...and some others. But no Ron Zacapa. LCBO's liquor selection has always been fairly limited and priced highly marked up. Got to know what you're shopping for to not get taken.
Having said that I think I should stock up on some Appleton's and Flor de Cana 6 year.

Your posting reminds me of when I was a swabby in the '60's stationed in the Panama Canal Zone. The first floor of our barracks was our club, the local rum distillery could periodically come out and there would be free drinks all night. My recollection is that the local premium rum in Panama was called Ron Abuelo, which would be taken neat.

A quick search found this site selling it.

all the way down, can't vouch for this place, but might be worth checking out... $43 bucks a bottle (have no idea what it's suppose to cost
)
Good luck! -
