<content>Was browsing through old threads and found one with folks ranting on about Amanda Hesser. There was note from Jim asking if we've read anything good lately.

Well,I sure have. Her name is Dara Moscowitz and she is the food writer for City Pages out of Minneapolis. I am a Brooklyn Girl, born in Staten Island, and yet every Wednesday I do to www.citypages.com to see what Dara has written about lately.

She is whipsmart, funny, and writes comically/lyrically about food, and gosh, everything else. She won a James Beard award this past year and she deserved it.

I have even spent time scouring the archives just to read her old columns. Amazing!

Check her out eve if you don't live in the Twin Cities!

You can find her column at www.citypages.com, then click on "restaurants".

Trust me on this one...

      <content>Agreed.
I prefer to think of Moscowitz as the Anti-Hesser in all the best possible ways. While Hesser has the choicest gig you can imagine, with the ultimate in access and $$ behind her, she can't hold my attention for more than two paragraphs. (I won't even get into the other critiques of her that have been addressed on these boards.) Moscowitz, however, is limited to the Twin Cities yet still manages to deliver something far more engaging every week without turning the section into a self-induglent vanity press. I think this is because Moscowitz comes across as a writer first who happens to be obsessed with food, whereas Hesser is a qualified food pro who was unfortunately encouraged too much at some high-priced creative writng workshop that makes use of Adirondack chairs.

<content>I don't know about this Dara, but I just LOVE Amanda Hesser! She's GREAT! I'm certainly hoping things don't work out with this "Mr. Latte", because I think I'd make a very excellent boyfriend for her. I don't even like coffee! And I don't know a whole lot about food, so I won't pretend to be one of those "foodie" food snobs when she takes me to a new restaurant with her friends. Amanda kinda reminds me of this girl I had a big crush on after my parents sent me to private school. I think things might have worked out between us if I hadn't been kicked out. Anyway, as I said, I don't know about this Dara. Does anyone know if she's single?</content>

<content>"Mano a mano with the puff." It's a great line, but even funnier when you own a big fluffy long-haired cat called "Puff".

Thanks for the great tip!</content>
