Storing dried Porcini Mushrooms

  • t

My grandmother (Italian) taught me to store them in the frig, in an air tight container, with a few black peppercorns and bay leaf.

What is the best way to store them?

  1. I don't have an answer, but it seems to me that storing them in the fridge might cause them to pick up moisture. I just throw mine in a ziploc baggie, so I'm no help. :-)

Thanks. I was thinking the same thing. Whenever I purchase them, they are not in the frig. But I must say, it does smell very nice when you open that container, filled with those mushrooms, peppercorns and bay leaf. I could stand there for minutes on end with the frig door open and sniff away.

You could still put the bay leaf and peppercorns in your ziploc. :-)

          So true.

And to think -- I bet that aroma will smell even better without the added chill.
