I shared a glass of this devine beer with a belgium beer bar shop owner who tells the following story.
Supposedly, the monks who produce this beer prohibit resale or any distribution outside of the town it is produced. It is made solely from consumption inside the monestary and the immediate surrounding area. However cases were stolen and an export agreement was forged for shipment to the US. Word has gotten out and only the few remaining cases are left in the country.

I have access to 10 more bottles and need to know if I should stock up?

Jims, fact or myth?

Westvleteren can be found in some beer shops in the US.

I don't know if they have it, but the Vintage Cellar in Blacksburg, VA and Belmont Station in Portland, OR are likely to, and both ship to US addresses. It isn't legal in all states to receive such a shipment, and I'm not sure if they ship to such states.

The Belgian Shop will ship to the US, and if you buy a reasonable quantity, even including shipping it can be cheaper than buying it at many US retailers.

I think you'll find the URLs of all these places easily. If not, let me know.
