Han's Honey Loquat Syrup

This is one of those things that you're not suppose to like as a child, but would feign coughs just to get some....In Chinese it's "Tsuan1 Bei4 Pi2 Pa2 Gau1". The main ingredient is loquat leaves, with licorice, ginger, peppermint and fritillary blended in a raw honey base.

Don't know if there are any other fellow junkies out there, but I was overjoyed when I found some in the Organic section of Fairway(NYC). It's a Chinese remedy for irritated throat and coughs. Now it's available outside of Chinatown.

    1. Great tip, HLing, thanks! I've got some right here in my desk drawer made by Nin Jiom in Hong Kong. The label calls it "Nin Jiom Pei Pa Koa" and lists ingredients as "loquat leaf, frittilary, balloon flower root, snakegourd seed, sand root, senega root, tuckahoe, licorice root, ginger root, five flavored seed and peppermint. Along with Bao Ji Wan, it's something my medicine cabinet always has a supply of.

          Hi Dennison,

Your ingredient list is much more intense than mine. I wonder if mine is made for snacking, and yours for serious treatment?

The other thing I found that didn't quite measure up was Barley Malt Syrup made by Eden. I still need to get those My4 yia2 tung2 from Chinatown. You know, the ones you scoop out and twirl with a spoon, ready to eat. Even better with a piece of dried salty and sour plum in the middle. Or as a filling for a saltine cracker sandwich.....

I have the same one as Dennison, recommended by my favorite local Chinese restaurant owner! I do enjoy having a sore throat just so I can slurp some.

            2. I have a sore throat with phlem, so I tried some last night for the first time, "Natural Herb Loquat Extract" ("chwan poi pei pa lo"), and tho I was skeptical that something herbal would be really effective, it totally worked. And it's very yummy as you say!
