I recently had a really great vietnamese lemon beef salad at a local resturant and want to attemp making one at home. It's a cold salad, with the cubes of beef that was marinated in some kind of lemon or lemon grass sauce. The rest of the salad was pretty much lettuce.

Does anyone out there have a recipe I can try? my search on the net didn't really turn up anything.

-thanks

Try searching under Nu nom tok, Nu num tok and num tok.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I've always thought nue nam tok is a thai beef salad. Best when very spicy and often containing mint. It is delicious. If you are looking for a vietnamese salad with lemongrass you may not like what you get with nue nam tok.

Have you tried the vientmaese listings at www.recipesource.com (the former SOAR archives)?

It sounds like you had a basic Vietnamese grilled lemongrass beef over the salad. If you marinate thinly sliced beef in a mixture of minced lemongrass, garlic, shallot, hot chile (like serrano), fish sauce, fresh lime juice, and sesame oil, and grill or broil it quickly, you should get the flavor you are seeking.
