My girlfriend and I love to drink beer. Unfortunately, she has a condition that afflicts many Asians--she turns bright red after just a few sips, and becomes enebriated very quickly, which makes tasting several different beers in an evening difficult.

Has anyone heard of anything that will help this condition?

Are there any non-alcoholic beers out there worth drinking?

I've tasted several non-alcoholic beers, and one of the most palatable was O'Doul's Amber. It was sweet (as I've found all NA beers are) but it had the cleanest flavor and actually tasted a little like beer. One thing that helps NA beers is a drop of hop oil, which can be found at brewing supply stores. It adds a little bitterness and a lot of aroma to the beer.

Agreed on O'Doul's Amber. It's a dealcoholized Oktoberfest beer, very nice for an NA.

Clausthaler Golden Amber is not too bad, either.

NAs tend to have a harsh bitterness and/or a sweet taste like unfermented beer (wort). And although alcohol itself has no flavor, it is a flavor carrier, and is definitely missed in that regard.

I remember liking the Clausthaler a lot more than others. So, here's the question: Is it possible for a NA beer to taste Skunky? Some of the O'Doul's I've had taste off to me.

I'll have to give the hop oil a try.

Skunkiness is quite possible in a NA beer, as it's related to hops, which are used in all of them.

I've read about this in Japanese newspapers. Research there shows that people with this lack an enzyme which would allow for the same metabolism of alcohol as people who do not turn red after drinking.

It is best to limit intake of alcohol.
