I attended the annual SPAM Jam this past July (generally around the 4th). It was _very_ family oriented with lots of cheap entertainment for kids. All of the concession stands sold SPAM foods - grilled SPAM, SPAM tacos, SPAM pizza. The SPAM tacos were surprisingly good - the rest, merely OK. We had a great time although I can't recommend Austin for much houndish dining. If you like loud, smokey blue-collar bars (I do) then you'll find plenty of nightlife.
