Where to go for Oktoberfest?

I need help. My family and I would like to go to Oktoberfest but are at a loss as to where to go exactly. We are interested in good beer and great (hopefully authentic) German food and are willing to travel from NY to anywhere on the East coast. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

A little further but Munich is the one and only Oktoberfest. Nothing compares!! Best party in the world!!! The food, the atmosphere, the parades, the Beer Halls, the girls, the music and the Beer. WOW what memories...........

Southwest Harbor, Maine? Good local beers, not much German food, but beautiful scenery at a beautiful time of year in New England.

The German Pantry in Norfolk, Virginia is a fabulous little hole-in-the-wall.

Sorry about the mag... but the list is pretty good. Ive heard the Cincinnati fest is the biggest in the US. And the Columbus German village sounds intriguing.

According to friends, DC has some nice O Fest activities. And there's a decent sized gathering in Cambridge, MA, though I've never been.

The one in Cambridge is a studenty street fair that bears little resemblance to a real Oktoberfest.

I recall an Oktoberfest every year in Wayne County Pa. on the north side of the Poconos about 2 hours from NY. I think it may be at a German restarant called The Alpine in Honesdale on Rt.6, but it's been a few years and my memory is fuzzy.

Great city, large German population, fests in late September.

If there's a German store in your area, stop in and see if they have a German-language newspaper. Here in the DC area there is such a paper, and they have lots of listings for Oktoberfests. The language barrier is not much of an obstacle in this case.
