A revised edition of the Concise Oxford Dictionary goes on sale today. It evidently has for the first time an entry for chowhound, which it defines as 'greedy person'.

Gee, when I was a kid we had a cat named "Chowhound", because it loved to eat. That means it's been part of the vernacular for a lotta years: Where's he been?

The most recent revision of the Merriam-Webster's Collegiate Dictionary gives 1942 as the first recorded use of the word, defined as "one fond of eating," or what might also be called a gourmand.
