A friend of mine is from Panama and she was wondering why the fruit Civuela - which grew wildly all around where she grew up - cannot be found here in NY. Does anyone know a place that sells these fruits? I would like to surprise her with a bunch.

I believe the spelling is incorrect and that it is actually ciruelas, this is a type of plum or raisin each country has their own type.
Check it out on altavista.com or yahoo.com.
The plums from latin american countrys are much different than from here. They are sweeter and much smaller.
