I always had an idea that La Portena in Jackson Heights was a butcher shop as well as a restaurant, but I had never actually checked it out. Last night I did buy a steak there to cook at home, and I wondered why it had taken me so long -- the meat is much better quality than you can get anywhere else in the neighborhood. So that made me think, butcher shop seems like a pretty natural side line for a steak house, and a good source for quality meat. Can anyone recommend other steak houses in New York that double as butchers?
