(No, it's not *my* microbatch ice cream...)

I saw this ice cream at the supermarket that is part of "Guitar Center" shopping mall at Northern Blvd. and 48th St. Looked intriguing but they only had one flavor, "Cinnamon Bun" which does not really interest me as an ice cream flavor. Being as it's "microbatch" I guess they have different flavors available different days.

I've gotten "Purple Passion Pills" at both D'Agostino and A&P, right here in Hell's Kitchen. It's pretty good as a substitute for B&J's retired vanilla chocolate mint patty (my absolute fave) - although the ice cream itself is purple. The "pills" are those little chocolate mint candies that you sometimes get in restaurants, in little bags of two. The company is not very micro, though - it's Nestle, I think, or some other of those huge scary conglomerates.

I don't think that conglomerate stuff is true. I remember reading about Jeremy in the local (Philly) paper, maybe a year or two ago. I think he was a kid when he started this company, maybe, but I'm not sure, from the Philly area.

I had a similar eperience a couple of years ago, at a grimy little convenience store near my apt. There it was in the ice-cream case, but I didn't feel like trying the one flavor there, so I haven't had it either.

But they have a web site (link below). *Everything* is animated, so it's annoyingly slow and cutesy, but it has details, and you can order through them. I didn't investigate the whole flavor list (as I said, annoyingly slow), but it includes "Wired" (vanilla with caffeine) and "Vanilla Stout Swirl" (no kidding)!

I forgot to note that their store directory is no help whatsoever, as it lists virtually every supermarket chain in NYC (not individual stores), and I've never seen it at any I've been in.

Star Markets in the Boston area carry Jeremy's Microbatch. I've only tried the Cinnamon Bun so far, but it's damn good. It's a nice midpoint between the intensity of Haagen Das and the complexity of Ben & Jerry's.

Jeremy's shuts down.
Ice Cream Reporter | October 20, 2000 | COPYRIGHT 2000 Ice Cream Reporter.

Article excerpt:

Just weeks after announcing a new strategic growth plan, Jeremy's MicroBatch Ice Creams reported on October 3 that it will discontinue operations and liquidate its assets to maximize value. The decision to shut down came less than a week after the company's President and CEO, Joseph Phillips, submitted his resignation. Phillips had joined the company in July, replacing founder Jeremy Kraus in those positions. Phillips is being retained by the company to wind-down the operations and to liquidate the assets. Jeremy's announced that it will entertain proposals "to maximize the ... "
