Does anyone have any experience with these things? They're so popular--but that makes me wonder if they can really be as good as they're cracked up to be. Thanks.

My son bought one and while he is a great one for buying "toys" he says he really likes his GFGrill. He's not an experienced cook but he does like to eat. He has made what sound like good meals in the thing.p.

My roommate has one and uses it nonstop to make all sorts of tasty-looking chicken dishes. I've made some good grilled vegetables and sandwiches with it. However I'm vegetarian, and I've found that, in general, it's difficult to evenly brown nonmeat/sandwich items--everything on the grill has to be the exact same thickness, or else the top grill won't work properly. But if you're an omnivore, go right ahead.

Consumer Reports wrote a short report about the Grill, and one point they made was that although it does indeed do a pretty good job of taking the grease off, the net result wasn't so much different from draining the meat on paper towels for a short time.

So although CR viewed the GF Grill as a gimmick, as I recollect they didn't have anything bad to say about it.

Just checked out the Consumer Reports website, where they do in fact have a recent review of one of the GF grills, along with other indoor grills. They say GF is OK but actually rate a Hamilton Beach model more highly.

And, for any fat-phobics out there, they cooked burgers in a frying pan and on a range of these grills and found no difference in the fat content of any of the burgers.

Thanks.

I used a friend's a couple of times. In my experience, it doesn't get hot enough to sear properly - so we use a stove top ridged grill pan. It has the advantage of allowing you to finish things off in the oven, and it takes up less storage room.

The hubby bought one from being brainwashed on late night TV a couple years ago. We used it for a time, but now it pretty much lives in the storage room. I agree with the previous posters about cleaning being a problem. Also, if the food is not thick enough it tends to steam rather than grill. We thought it'd be great for satay, but not so. The only thing I liked when cooked on it was whole red snapper, but as mentioned, the cleanup was a pain.

You're much better off with a cast iron skillet and/or grill pan and just blot off the grease.

Thanks, everyone, for all the reports. Based on what you and others say, it sounds like this is a handy thing to have around if you grill a lot of steaks or burgers and have the storage space. I don't fall into that category, though, so thanks for saving me $100!

I have the largest George Foreman made and I use it on Sunday to make all my meals for the week. I love this grill. I even marinate boneless pork chops overnight and cook all at once. Then slip amount of grilled chops desired to feed family into zip lock sandwich bags (or larger for big family) add a little of the marinara sauce and freeze. They stay nice and tender and you only thaw and heat in microwave. A great way to grill veggies, put small amount of olive oil in a zip lock bag with desired veggies toss and place veggies on the grill. These are great and low in calories. I believe this was the best Christmas gift ever even compared to the diamond ring. You won't be disappointed. Try it.
