smoked salmon shelf life??

bought a huge package of smoked salmon two weeks ago at Costco to have with bagels. Sealed it up in new packaging and its still in the fridge. How long does store-bought smoked salmon last, anyway? thanks.
I don't know the answer, but I'd be surprised if there isn't a use-by date on the package. Once opened, I'm not sure I'd eat it after a week.
However....smoked salmon freezes excellently. Take what you aren't going to eat this week, wrap it in individual portions (i.e. so you only have to defrost what you need for a week's time) in saran wrap, put the wrapped fish in a ziplock freezer bag and squeeze out as much air as you can (pardon me if you already know how to freeze meat!). Defrost in the fridge overnight when you are ready to eat.
I promise, you will barely notice the difference.
From my experience, smoked salmon will stay fresh several days, perhaps a week, but not longer.
