Tilly's Feather asked for a recipe on the Midwest Board and someone posted it may be this one. I had a recipe - have not tried it, but a friend gave it to me. Hope this helps.

3 2lb bags tater tots
2 cans cream of mushroom
2 cans evaporated milk
2 cans cream of chicken

Brown meat & place in large cass. dish.
Cover with tater tots. Mix soup & milk together.
Pour over top. Bake at 350 for 1 Hour.
Makes 2- 9”X13” pans

That's not the tater tot hotdish I grew up with (yours contains no meat), so here's an alternative:

1½ lb. ground beef
1 small onion, diced
2 bags Tater Tots
2 cans green beans, drained
2 (or 3, depending on your casserole dish) cans cream of mushroom soup
1 can full of milk
salt and pepper

Brown the beef and onions and drain. Toss with the green beans and put in a buttered casserole dish. Mix the soup, the milk and the S&P in a bowl and pour over the food in the dish. Bake at 350 for 20 minutes. Add the Tater Tots on top and bake 20 more minutes. Let rest.

Some people top with cheese, but that's a Wisconsin thing and no Minnesotan would appear at a funeral with a cheese-topped Tater Tot hotdish.

I tried this one at Superbowl with great success I choose it over the other kinds because it had more 'whole' ingredients (Those condensed soups scare me...) It came out SOO yummy... But it's still AWFULLY unhealthy...

Be sure to read the comments in the recipe too... I used four eggs instead of the two… Which did HELP in the firming and bulk of the recipe. Also, you might want to cook a little longer than recommended for super crisp tots. Next time BF also wants to par-cook some of the tots before hand so they stay crisp on all sides.
