Hope you weren't looking for a place tonight, or this recommendation's too late: a few have really liked Raffles Cafe (41068 Fremont Blvd in Fremont). Singapore cuisine, the Hainan Chicken Rice is well praised.

Here's the most recent mention:

Here's the chowdown held there recently:

Just had lunch at Raffles Sunday with a out of town guest who is from Singapore and he liked it. "Just like my Mom cooks and this is the first time I had this verison of rice in this country. I will post after he emails me a list of all the dishes he ordered.

For all those who have read the postings and have not tried it you better move on it try it. I was told by the chef that he has sold the building because he did not liked the location and is in the process of finding a new location either in same area or in the South Bay. They will be open for six weeks only.

Love the new dishes he ordered and only had two dishes we had before. I find it very true that the food is better when the person ordering knows what they are doing.

I'm a big fan of Afghani food in Little Kabul in Fremont. Salang Pass is very good and has a nice, cozy atmosphere. I recommend the qabuli polow, brown basmati rice with chunks of lamb and carrots and raisins. Delicious! And the appetizer (or you can order it as your entree) borani kadoo (or kaddo) is out of this world - pumpkin baked for hours until caramelized, topped with a garlic yogurt sauce. My mouth is watering.

There's also Woodlands in Newark - very good South Indian vegetarian eats. See the post I linked from our chowdown there a few months ago.
