I am having a small chanukah party. Latkes are so time consuming to make--what else should I serve to complete the meal? Thanks

At my very large chanukah party, I served matzoh ball soup (made ahead and frozen), grilled chicken wings, carrot, beet and cucumber salads which I bought from the nearby falafel shop, and some cookies and bonbons. I had the guests do all the frying, as is the tradition at our party, and I helped make the successive batches of batter. It really makes it more convivial that way. We went through 25 pounds of potatoes! And six quarts of applesauce!

We had roasted chicken (from Costco no less and damn good), roasted vegetables, and simple salad. Dessert was molten chocolate cakes and lemon cake. Let the latkes shine...

I made (for a family meal- not for a party) braised beef short ribs and a salad to go with the latkes. The braised short ribs were actually made the night before so the fat cap could be peeled off the next day before reheating. Very tasty and easy for entertaining since it can be made in advance.
