Those of you spending all this time, money and energy on Thanksgiving would do well to by a cheap oven thermometer and find out Wednesday what the temperature your oven REALLY is when you turn that dial to 350. Emjoy your food and your family.
And Smart and Final has one for under $9.
Don't forget your masking tape to remark your oven dial.
My stepmother is French. She stayed at our house one Thanksgiving a few years back. She cooked the turkey. After the meal she informed us that our electric oven's dial was off by 10 degrees--the actual temp was 10 degrees lower. That week I bought an oven thermometer and, amazingly, she was right! I've added 10 degrees to the setting every time I have used it since. And this in an oven she had never cooked with before!
