Simplest Hard Cider help

On a whim, I bought five gallons of fresh, unpasteurized cider from a guy at work. I am looking for a simple way to get a drinkable hard cider out of it. An English friend mentioned people throwing a handful of raisins in to jumpstart the fermentation. Anyone with experience in cider-making?
