I bought some beautiful fresh chestnuts in Booneville (a tiny town in California in the valley leading to the Mendocino coast) at their Saturday farmers' market. The market is very small and doesn't have a huge selection, but it's funky and friendly and I also got some wonderful garlic.
Any good recipes? I've seen salad, soup, pudding, cake......
If you have the Native American foods book that came out with the Smithsonian's exhibit last year, in it there is a stew recipe with chestnuts I was just eyeing. . . don't have it here to paraphrase for you tho . . .
funny, because I think of chestnuts as being so English
(this is the book. it got a Beard award, woo hoo.)
