Sandwiches with Olive Loaf

I have a left over olive loaf in my freezer that I'd love to make lunch sandwiches with (I originally bought it to go with a soup for my parents, but that never got made...)

The problem is, I have no idea what would go GOOD with Olive Loaf. I love Olive Loaf, but mainly use it again, to dip in soups... So I need some inspiration!

Its made with Kalamata Olives if that makes any difference and the loaf is the crusty kind! :)

  1. My question to you is: what wouldn't go with an olive loaf?! It sounds incredible!

    But my first choice would be salami, fwiw.

    1. Until I read the reply by "noodles" I was afraid you were talking about the deli item called "olive loaf" that looks like bologna with olives in it. Couldn't understand why you would have frozen it, wanted to resurrect it, etc.

      Slow on the uptake today.

      It makes a wonderful savory biscotti and base for bruschetta toppings as well as a very homey melted cheese sandwich. Paired with chevre and some minced rosemary, you have a simple hors d'ouevre.

        Your reaction was the same as mine, I could not imagine why you would want to dip that stuff in soup. 2 of us who are slow today!

          My reaction, too, but then the only time I've seen the words "Olive Loaf" used, it WAS lunch meat!

          So, we're talking olive BREAD here? OK, that's different, never mind...

            LOL!! Sorry, I should have been a bit more clear, I meant Olive Bread Loaf. A Bread loaf that is studded with Olives.

            My worry in a sandwich is that the olives in the bread are salty (So I didn't want to add to salty a lunch meat) and of course, Kalamata Olives have a nice strong flavor (I didn't want anything to clash against it). But thanks to the suggestions, I now have visions of a Fontina and Roasted Red Pepper with Turkey smeared with Pesto Sauce sandwich vision in my head... Hmmmm....

            But I of course now, I must confess... as lunch meat fan, I do have a soft spot for a slice or two of Olive or Pimento loaf especially when added to a Ham Sandwich with mayo and mustard on Potato Bread... Hmmmm... :)

              Might I suggest an oil-based tuna salad, with good Italian tuna in olive oil with some fine-slivered onion and some herbs? Maybe some sliced HB egg? Now, I'd likely do oil-packed sardines instead, but that's just me...in fact, I HAVE done that on the LaBrea rosemary/olive oil bread. I bet it'd be stunning on yours.

                Ohh! I love Tuna and the one they make at Wholesome Choice would go so good with that Olive Bread! :) Thanks! I'm going to have some very nice sandwiches next week! :)


      2. Prosciutto, provolone or fontina, roasted peppers a bit of balsamic or pesto, grilled. Pretty basic, but it would be good.

        As mentioned it would make a great sandwich bread for so many combos.
