Casserole dish - covered or not?

I am about to start preparing a beef and orange stew and the recipe says to cook in the oven in a casserole dish. It doesn't mention to cover and bake. Is is assumed that a casserole dish has a cover and I should put it or should I just bake uncovered?

    Cover it. The only time you want to leave the cover off is if you have a crispy topping.
