In love with Midnight Moon
Over a cheese plate last night at Jardiniere, Midnight Moon cheese from Cypress Grove in Arcata seduced me. I'm in love!
Firm goat milk cheese... aged one year... bloomy rind. Tastes faintly of cave aged gruyere but is nuttier, smoother, yet has a very satisfying sharp tang all its own.
It's truly special!! And yet I could easily eat it every single day.
I see from the Cypress Grove Web site that it's new. I hope to see it at the Cowgirl Creamery stand this weekend!!!!

Whole Foods at Telegraph/Ashby in Berkeley sells it, for about $16 per pound (they've been selling it for several years). It is one of my favorite cheeses. Apparently it is made in Holland, to the specifications of the Cypress Grove people.

Hm, I wonder why their Web site says it is new? Maybe the Web site is very out of date.
Glad to know I can get it at a grocery store, thanks!

I love it too. Midnight Moon is indeed made in Holland, but it's been on the market less than two years.

Midnight Moon is a rip-off.
It's re-packaged generic 6-month aged Dutch goat gouda, sold at double the price of much more interesting 1-year old Dutch goat gouda (available at Rainbow and other fine cheese shops!)
Rainbow also has younger Dutch goat gouda for an even lower price.
Don't be fooled and pay double.
