What happened to Chayitos in San Mateo?
Anyone who is in their 30's or 40's might remember this mexican burrito hole in the wall. They had the original on the corner of B street and 2nd ave in san Mateo. they opened another on laurel in San Carlos and one in the shopping mall near CSM> They used to make a really thin skinned steamed tortilla with marinated steak or chicken. All of a sudden, they were gone. Nothing I have had since makes the same kind of burritos. Does anyone know what happened to them. (this is going probably 10 years back..sorry)
Been wondering the same thing myself as a devotee of the San Carlos branch.

I live in SoCal now but whenever I am back on the peninsula I wish I could go there. I would even think of buying a franchise if they offered it. It was a goldmine, always busy. That's why I wonder what heppened. Bummers

This place was soooo good, the chorizo burritos were the best I have ever tasted, I mean ever, really, ever; I don't even think they offered rice here. The tortas were crazy good, the beans were soooo soft they just used them as a spread for the sandwhiches and then the extremely tasty and really tender carne asada with a great longhorn cheese, toped with pico de gallo, uh it makes one want to cry! I have never, ever, ran into a taqueria with the same flavors and quality again. such a shame! I don't know what happened to them, but I definately miss them enough to leave this message.
