How long does food coloring paste last?

  • w

Okay, this is really an after the fact kind of question, but I thought I just get it confirmed.

I have a kit of food coloring pastes, which I got in high school. That was over 12 years ago :P
I'm still using it because each time I use only a dab.
So far no one has gotten sick, and the color is still as vibrant as ever.

Should I be stopped?!

  1. I still use the kit - probably the same kit you have - that I bought at the start of cooking school about 12 years ago...and so far so good :-) I had to get rid of the green because it dried out, but otherwise they seem fine. I never really thought that they could be bad...hmmmm...oh well :-0 I hardly ever use them anyway :-)

What do these kits look like and where can I get one? I hate buying food coloring and hardly ever use it. These 12 year old things seem right up my alley. What's the brand name? I hope the company's still around, even if they've updated the kit.

I can look it up at home, but I know you can find similiar things at Michael's. I saw some this weekend. The ones they carry are not as complete in color, but they have sets four of primary colors and others.
