kitchenaid mixers

  • c

I have been looking at kitchenaid stand mixers for some time now and I am driving myself nuts trying to decide between the new accolade or the pro 5. The thing I am having the hardest time with is deciding between the tilt head and the bowl lift model. Does anyone have any info they could share on ease of use of these models, has anyone tried them both and liked one better over the other? Any help would be appreciated.

  1. I have an old bowl lift model that has endured endless stress, strain and misuse without missing a beat. Apparently, the head and bowl can get out of alignment on the tilt head models.

My tilt head model is 30 years old and I've not had that problem. There are two screws, however, that one can use to adjust the depth of the beaters and iirc the height of the head. In 30 years of pretty regular use, I've only had to adjust it once. If I were buying a new one, I'd go for the models with larger bowl capacity. You can always mix small amounts in a big bowl, but it's just about impossible to mix big amounts in a small bowl.

    2. I prefer the bowl lift model... mostly because I have lower cabinets in my kitchen and not very deep counterspace. I used to have the flip up on and was forever whacking the upper cabinets with the darn thing.. or had trouble finding room.

plus i really don't like the way the bowl screws on to the base. just a personal preference. I seem to slop less flour with the lift up model... but I don't know why.

      1. I've had the bowl-lifter model (K5A) since the late '70s. Wouldn't want anything else.

        1. I'm not that familiar with the Accolade, but I would definately recommend the 6 quart bowl-lift.
