Having dinner with (older) friends on Saturday night, and I wanted to bring something to contribute.
Shes thinking of making a plum chicken recipe and a pear and pecan topped salad with a champagne vinaigrette. Also, a cheese course with dessert wine after.
Whats a light dessert or even a starter that might go well with this? Any suggestions?
I'm so excited for this. They have the best cellar of anybody I've ever met.
For a wine dinner, I once made a pear gallette, where the pears were first poached in dessert wine. Then remove pears, reduce liquid to a syrup. Place pears and syrup in gallette dough, bake. I didn't use a recipe for filling, but I can give you more detail if you like.
How about a nice gingerbread cake? There's also this Autumn Trifle with Roasted Pears and Apples with Pumpkin-Caramel Sauce. I made this for a holiday dinner, and it was a big hit. It was way tastier than I ever imagined it could be!
