Alton Brown's ceramic smoker

  • r

Recently saw an Alton Brown episode where he made a smoker from ceramic pots & a hot plate. This intrigued me, and I was wondering whether or not anyone else who might have seen the same show had actually built & used one of these smokers? If you have, were you pleased with the results of both the smoker & the food item smoked? Thanks in advance.

A chef I know on Long Island is opening a southern style restaurant in the next few weeks (Bayport) and he has purchased several of these "big green eggs". He has made me venison cutlets and chicken (bone in) and both reminded me of my childhood, when everyone cooked without gas grills, I was in heaven.

    2. did not see the show, but this is the simple form of a big green egg w/o the price.I have one (egg) and dont see why it wouldn't work.Alton lives in atlanta and probably got his idea from their manufacturing plant here in atlanta.
