In preparation for my move, I am cleaning out my closets. In doing so, I found lots of unused cookware and serving prices from the mid-1970s, including lots of Magnalite, Wilton Armetale, and two handsome white Dansk Dutch-oven-type pots with lids. Does anyone remember Dansk cookware from that date? What material is it made of (some kind of metal coated with enamel). Would this be a good substitue for the Le Creuset I am always thinking of buying? (It is lighter in weight than Le Creuset) Can I treat it like Le Creuset?

I used to sell all of that stuff. The Dansk cookware is enamel on steel and it will not heat as evenly as Le Creuset. It also chips easily too so handle with care. You will find that it has hoht spots.

Wilton Armetale is an alloy. It is safe to eat off of it is nice for somethings that you want to stay cold or hot. When chilled or heated it tends to hold it's temperature longer than some other serving pieces. If it has a shiny finish on it do not put it through the dishwasher. If you do it will begin to look like old pewter.

The Magnalite is another alloy and it heats very evenly and smoothly. When I was in college and we were testing cookware we had to cook and scorch vanilla pudding on a variety of brands of pots and pans. Magnalite always came out very evenly scorched with no hot spots. When Calphalon and Magpro came out with popularity of the deco styled Magnalite kind of waned.

Thanks very much!!!! By the way, I still use many of my Magnalite pots from that era!!!! The Dansk is so good to look at but I will be careful with it, as you suggest. The drawbacks might be enough to delete it from my small new kitchen!!

Think of the Dansk more as serveware than cookware. It is fine for casseroles and things that are baked in the oven, it just is not good for stovetop recipes.

Hello,
can anyone tell me where I can buy a Dansk 5 qt sauce pot.
This is the retro looking one that they discontiued apprx 2 years ago. It was the red color. I dropped it and severly damaged the enamel. My wife is heartbroken. If not is there a company that can repair them?

Thank you!
