Jordan's House of Ribs

  • c

I noticed in the Guardian that this place
"Located in the SF Landmark Sam Jordan's Bar
4004 Third St."... has gumbo and addition to BBQ......has anyone been yet?
I checked both search engines, and could not come up with a mention.
Hours: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday 11AM to 2AM (!!!)
Tuesday, Saturday and Sunday 2PM to 2AM (!!!) a true late night eatery.

I must be hungry because I'm looking at the clock on my computer thinking, hmmmm, fifteen more minutes until closing, I wonder if I could make it? I haven't tried it yet, but it sounds intriguing indeed. :)

    1. Does Sam (a.k.a. "the mayor of Butchertown") still own it? Is he still around?

Good Morning, Sharuf! Us old folks don't need much sleep, eh?

Sam died last summer. His son Allen (another familiar name) runs it. Check the link under my post above.

Thanks Gary. I had met Sam Jordan during my politically-active days -- and he was very impressive (and charismatically handsome). Interesting article. His passing is a loss to the city, but it sounds like the tradition is in good hands.

      2. It's only been there since last summer, and is indeed in a historic spot. The link below gives some background. I'm guessing there will be an explosion of new places to try in the area as the opening of the Third Street light rail line next year approaches.

        1. Any updates on this place?

Noticed it today, didn't seem open, but I musta been too early. Called and it closes at 11pm on Sundays.

Good to know it actually does open. I've been by there a few times and it never seems open.

I've had the fried chicken wings from here on two different occasions. They are yummy. Walk through the bar to the back to place your order.

Thanks, what time do you find 'em open?
